Hepatography

Allen D. Smythe · Australasian Radiology · 1963

SUMMARYA brief review of methods of hepatography has been given. There is no satisfactory routine method of hepatography due to lack of a suitable contrast medium. Efforts are being made in this regard and routine hepatography would become a more common examination should such a medium be found. It is stressed that thorotrast should only be used in patients with a life expectancy of less than five years. The demonstration of liver tumours by injections into the hepatic artery or portal vein will become more frequent as cancer investigation and research proceed. This opportunity for radiological participation in clinical teamwork should not be missed.
