The retinol‐binding protein from porcine serum has been isolated and characterized. Its molecular weight and amino‐acid composition were determined and compared to these data from its human, monkey and rat counterpart. In anology to these proteins pig retinol‐binding protein is under physiological conditions bound to a larger plasma protein and has a carboxyl‐terminal residue of arginine suggesting a general mechanism for the delivery of vitamin A to the tissue cells.
