The oxidized cytochrome P‐450 shows an ESR‐spectrum with g‐values at 2.41, 2.26 and 1.91.An attempt has been made to simulate these properties by studying the products of the reaction of a series of thiols with heminechloride in various solvents. g‐values have been obtained around g3= 2.4, g2= 22 and g1= 1.9, depending on the chemical nature of the thiol and the solvent. The structure of the heme site in the oxidized cytochrome is discussed.
