The biology of <i>Myxosoma cerebralis:</i> the causative organism of whirling disease of salmonids

The literature describing the biology and control of Myxosoma cerebralis (whirling disease) is reviewed. New data on the world distribution of the parasite are presented. It is concluded that the presence of M. cerebralis is not an important limiting factor in salmonid fanning per se but only limits methods of production.
