Purpose This study conducts a meta-review of the evolution of cybersecurity strategies in the US banking sector, emphasizing the influence of regulatory frameworks and technological integration, particularly the adoption of the Zero Trust framework, a model based on the principle of “never trust, always verify.” Design/methodology/approach Utilizing publicly available data and analysis supported by Large Language Models (LLMs), the research introduces Valeria’s Zero Trust Evaluation Model (VZTEM), a novel framework designed to address sector-specific challenges, including legacy systems and regulatory complexity. VZTEM provides a structured approach for improving cybersecurity infrastructure in banking. The study moves beyond traditional models in behavioral theory by examining how non-reasoned factors, including habits, routines and emotional motivations, influence cybersecurity behavior.
