98 Developing Minor Operation Services in Plastic Surgery to Reduce Theatre Burden and Improve Time to Surgery

Abstract Aim The primary aim was to assess safety of a single centre minor operations service run by plastic surgery over the course of one year with data collected for over 100 procedures. Method Data was prospectively gathered using our electronic trauma database to record date of referral, date of procedure, and type of procedure. Complications were checked for 6 weeks post procedure by review of patient notes. Comparison of time to surgery and complication rate were made using similar cases performed in dedicated theatres in the same time period. Results We found that 6 weeks post procedure complication rates were less than 5%. In addition to this we found that the minor operations service significantly reduced the burden on plastics trauma lists as well as reducing the time to surgery when compared to the same types of procedures listed in our main theatres.
