The Evolving Clinical Role of Interventional Radiology in Coordinated Patient Care

Abstract Interventional radiology has made substantial progress toward becoming a fully integrated clinical specialty, delivering longitudinal, patient-centered care through outpatient consultation, diagnostic evaluation, image-guided intervention, and post-procedural follow-up. This transformation aligns the specialty with broader trends toward minimally invasive, value-based healthcare. Despite these advances, dedicated outpatient clinic infrastructure remains far from universal, and awareness of interventional radiology's clinical scope remains limited among referring physicians, contributing to underutilization of minimally invasive therapies, delayed referrals, and fragmented care. Dedicated interventional radiology outpatient clinics address these gaps by improving access to consultation, supporting shared decision-making, enhancing continuity of care, and generating billable evaluation and management encounters that sustain clinical practice. Published experience suggests that structured clinics may be associated with increased referral volume, higher procedural conversion rates, and improved patient satisfaction, though these findings derive predominantly
