ABSTRACT Aim This study was conducted to explore the experiences of nurses in nursing homes regarding compassion fatigue. Method A purposive sampling method was used to conduct semi‐structured in‐depth interviews with ten nurses working in a nursing home in Ankara, Turkiye between January and February 2024 for a descriptive phenomenological study. The collected data were analysed using thematic analysis. Results Four themes emerged from thematic analysis: “Causes of compassion fatigue”, “Consequences of compassion fatigue”, “Burnout”, and “ Cope with compassion fatigue”. The findings highlight that compassion fatigue has a lasting impact on nurses, affecting them both personally and professionally.
