A fluorescence photomicrograph showing a chronic microbleed in the cortex of a patient with amyloid angiopathy. In this image, hemosiderin deposits from the bleed are red, beta amyloid peptide is stained blue, and vascular smooth muscle cells are stained green (but none are associated with the artery at the site of the bleed). Beta amyloid was found in the wall of this same vessel in adjacent sections. See article by van Veluw and coworkers, on pp. 279–292.
